ISCI leader lauds Iraq-Kuwait ties, eyes Iraq-GCC partnership

Leader of Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq Ammar Al-Hakim hailed Saturday the remarkable development of Iraqi-Kuwaiti ties, urging strategic partnership among Iraq and Gulf nations to defend shared interests. "Iraq and Kuwait share history, geography and even interests," Al-Hakim said during his reception of a visiting Kuwaiti media delegation. "Both nations are responsible for strengthening these relations and taking it to new heights," he added. The Iraqi politician urged Kuwaiti people and leadership not to stop at the strange anti-Kuwait statements made by a handful of Iraqi politicians. He underlined the importance of countering any attempts and schemes to jeopardize Iraqi-Kuwaiti relations. Al-Hakim noted the sectarian tension in the Gulf region is totally based on political problems. He also for a real strategic partnership between Arab countries based on shared political, security and economic concerns. For his part, Kuwaiti Ambassador in Iraq Ali Al-Moamen applauded the great role played by Al-Hakim and his party in bolstering Iraqi-Kuwaiti relations and solving any dispute that challenges them. Kuwaiti MP Hassan Johar stressed the importance of dialogue among countries in the region, particularly the major ones, namely Iraq and Saudi Arabia to ease tension and bridge gaps. The Kuwaiti delegation to Iraq includes MPs, media people, academicians and public figures.
