Kuwait national tennis team on Saturday
proceeded from the round-robin stage of the Asia/Oceania Zone Davis Cup to
Group II after defeating the Malaysian team 2-0.
The game, part of the BNP Paribas Group III, took place at the Enghelab
Sport Complex in Tehran, Kuwait Tennis Federation (KTF) said in a statement
here.
Mohammad Ghareeb, of Kuwait beat Assri Merzuki, of Malaysia 6-3 and 6-1
while Kuwait's Abdullah Maqdas defeated Ariez Elyaas Deen Heshaam, of Malaysia
6-1 and 6-0.
Faleh Al-Otaibi, head of the Kuwaiti mission, hailed the spectacular
performance of the Kuwaiti players, wishing them more success in the crucial
Group II competitions.
"The KTF, under President Sheikh Ahmad Jaber Al-Abdullah Al-Sabah, has
developed a training program for the Kuwaiti players to prepare them for the
coming fiercer competitions," he added.
Al-Otaibi spoke highly of the Iranian tennis federation for setting the
stage for the games and hosting the ten participating teams.
He also thanked Kuwait Ambassador to Iran Majdy Al-Thafieri and embassy
staffers for their support to the Kuwaiti mission. |
