Iran is set to host the next meeting of the member
states of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) some time toward the end of the month
of August, announced Spokesman of the Iranian Foreign Ministry Ramin
Mehmanparast in his weekly press conference.
He revealed that his country would hold NAM's presidency for the next three
years, stating that the movement "was imbued with great potential to exert
meaningful influence on prominent world issues."
With a membership boasting 118 countries, NAM is well-poised to assume the
stature of an influential bloc that can stand in the face of discrimination
and lack of justice in the world, he said.
Regarding the upcoming talks between Iran and the Group of 5+1, slated for
May 23 in the Iraqi capital city of Baghdad, Mehmanparast said that the
Iranian delegation to these talks would join them with good intentions, hoping
that the same would be true of the other side.
He praised the last such meeting between the two sides which took place
last month in Istanbul, describing it as one that showed signs of cooperation
and hopefulness, wishing that the same would occur in the next round of talks
in Baghdad. |
