Two British soldiers killed in Helmand mortar fire

Two British soldiers were killed by enemy mortar fire in Afghanistan Friday, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) said. The soldiers, from the Royal Logistic Corps, were attached to 1st Battalion The Royal Welsh Battlegroup, in the northern part of Nahr-e-Saraj district in Helmand province. The MoD said thee two soldiers died after an "indirect fire attack" on Forward Operating Base Ouellette. The MoD said that it could release no more details after a request from the soldiers' families. A total of 412 members of UK forces have died since operations in Afghanistan began in October 2001. There are around 9.500 UK troops deployed in Afghanistan, the majority in the Southern Helmand province, hotbed of the insurgency.
