Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu Sunday
called for early legislative elections in the next four months.
Addressing a conference of the Likud party, Netanyahu said he was ready for
an election battle to be held during the next four months "in order to restore
stability to economic systems as soon as possible."
Israeli media anticipated the elections to be held on September 4.
The Israeli Knesset, or parliament, will vote tomorrow on bills that would
dissolve the house to pave way for early elections.
Netanyahu, according to Israeli media, said Israel has been witnessing
economic growth that surpassed the one in Europe and the US.
He said Israel succeeded in rallying international support to preventing
Iran from possessing nuclear weapons.
Israeli pundits said Netanyahu wanted to call for early elections before
the US presidential elections which are due next November. |
