The President of the European Commission Jose
Manuel Barroso Sunday night congratulated French socialist leader Francois
Hollande who won the country's presidential election with an estimated 52
percent of votes in Sunday's run-off.
"On my own behalf and on behalf of the European Commission, I warmly
congratulate Francois Hollande this important victory and I wish him every
success," said the head of the EU's executive body in a statement.
"The challenges are many, for France as for the European Union. I am
convinced that together we have the ability to cope. Tonight, my conviction
remains that here can be no strong Europe without France deeply engaged in
Europe," he added. |
