The vote counting process for Algeria's fourth
parliamentary elections started here late Thursday at ballot counting centers.
Some 25,000 candidates have elected themselves for the 462 vacant seats.
From the 44 parties in the race, the most prominent are the National
Liberation Front, headed by Abdulaziz Belkhadem, the National Rally for
Democracy, headed by Prime Minister Ahmed Ouyahia and the three-party Islamist
bloc that include the Movement of Society for Peace, the Islamic Renaissance
Movement, and the Movement for National Reform.
More than 21 million voters are estimated to have taken part in the
elections. |
