Britain welcomed on Friday the withdrawal of
forces which belong to South Sudan from disputed area of Abyei, a move to
implement the June 2011 security and management agreement on the region.
British Foreign Office Minister for African Affairs Henry Bellingham
called, in a press statement, on the Sudanese government to take similar steps
and withdraw all of its forces from Abyei immediately and to respect to
international resolutions.
The British official called on both governments of South Sudan and Sudan to
return to negotiation table and work with the African Union and United Nations
and find the definitive solution swiftly that would best suit amendments of
the African road map plan.
Bellingham also noted on positive developments regarding the return of more
than 100,000 refugees of Abyei region to their home home, after a year of
dislocation, hailing as well the role of UN forces to maintain peace and
protect lives there.
The minister also called on all parties involved to ease restrictions for
the civilians to return home and go back to their day to day activities. |
