President of the Arab Parliament Ali Al-Deqbasi
said Sunday the house sought to honor aspirations of Arab peoples as well as
safeguarding their freedom and dignity.
Speaking to reporters on sidelines of meetings of Arab Parliament's
committees, Al-Deqbasi, of Kuwait, said the Arab Spring has began bearing
fruits in a positive manner. "Therefore, the Arab Parliament is working on new
amendments on the statute to be a permanent parliament with an effective
legislative and monitoring role."
He said the Arab Parliament was in the process of transformation from the
transitional phase to the permanent status.
He explained that the Arab Parliament Secretariat should be based in
Damascus, but due to violence in Syria the activities and meetings were
relocated to Cairo.
However, Al-Deqbasi hoped The Arab Parliament would meet in Damascus soon
"to congratulate the Syrian people for winning their freedom. |
