Lebanese army kill Muslim cleric, Mikati urges restraint

Lebanese amy forces shot dead a Muslim cleric in north Lebanon, as prime minister Najib Mikati expressed sorrow for the "painful" incident which would be investigated. Mikati, affirming that no one was above the law, called on the people of Akkar to exercise self-restraint after army forces shot dead Sheikh Ahmad Abdulwahed who refused to stop at a checkpoint. Speaking to reporters after a security meeting, Mikati called on people to clear the roads to allow passage. Abdulwahed and his companion were killed after they refused to stop at the checkpoint. They were driving to a political rally organized by the Future party in north Lebanon. The killing triggered nationwide condemnation.
