Voting in Serbia's presidential runoff elections
has come to an end, with initial results suggesting that the nationalist
Tomislav Nikolic is gaining momentum over his pro-Western rival, incumbent
Boris Tadic.
The news, which comes after over 88 percent of ballot boxes were counted,
contradicts local media reports which anticipated a clear-cut win for the
incumbent president.
Only 41.5 percent of eligible voters took part in the country's elections,
representing a 12 percent drop in turnout from the first-round of voting two
weeks ago, with the results to be announced later tonight. |
