Kuwaiti and French diplomats and intellctual
agreed that social media networks have become a source to vent freedom for
many people who lacked freedom of expression in past.
French Ambassador to Kuwait Nada Yafi, in a seminar about modern media
means, nationalism and political contribution, said the State of Kuwait
enjoyed great space of freedom and an influential civil society action.
When France chaired the G8 group last week, she said, it invited Kuwait to
co-chair the group in order to boost future cooperation.
Yafi said social communication means have become important for societies
because they were quick means to interact.
the seminar is co-organized by the French institute here, Kuwait
Journalists Association (KJA), Kuwait lawyers Association and Kuwait Graduates
Society.
Chairman of Kuwait Graduates Society Saud Al-Enezi said the seminar was a
good opportunity to interact between Kuwait and France.
He said his society organized many seminars about social media networks,
whose negative effects would be inciting racism, sectarianism and tribalism.
However, social media networks boosted the meaning of democracy among
people, so they moved a step forward from just casting a ballot to interacting
with events.
Kuwait University (KU) philosophy professor Dr. Mohammad Al-Wuhaib said an
individual could not live alone but needed groups and a social organization.
KU political sciences professor Dr. Ghanem Al-Najjar said social media
networks were like weapons of mass destruction but without casualties or
remains, but their impacts were devastating depending on the way they were
used.
Al-Najjar criticized the government's bids to crack down on users of social
media networks was countered with enormous attacks by unanimous users.
Rakan Al-Nisf, member of the executive office of the national alliance,
said people were coping with technological development.
He calledon governments to cope with this development and not to fight it
but rather benefit from it. |
