Kuwaiti detainee in Guantanamo Fayez
Al-Kanderi will not be released although US Defense Department has waived
charges against him, because the charges are "legal and technical" procedure
related to Pentagon's own laws thus will not affect his detainment status,
Kuwaiti ambassador in Washington said.
Sheikh Salem Abdullah Al-Jaber, answering a KUNA question Saturday,
expressed regret that some persons have announced the release of Al-Kanderi
without verifying the facts of his case.
Sheikh Salem said he has chaired a delegation from the ministries of
interior and justice, during meetings with US officials in Washington over the
past two days, in yet another bid to release Al-Kanderi and the other Kuwaiti
detainee Fawzi Al-Odeh.
He said these meetings made progress, and that another round of talks would
be held in Kuwait.
Kuwait has received 10 prisoners so far and only two are left in the
detention camp. |
