UAE's Al-Wasl club fires Diego Maradona

Al-Wasl football Club board of directors met on Tuesday and issued a statement saying Maradona and his technical staff had been immediately "relieved" of their duties. Al-Emirates newspaper said on its website that Al-Wasl Acting Executive Director for Football Abdullah Al-Besher issued the statement, noting that their decision came after an extensive review of all the technical aspects on the team. The Argentinean coach signed a two-year deal in May 2011, currently in vacation in his homeland. A replacement for Maradona was not announced, Al-Wasl team finished eighth in the 12-team league.
