Alenia Aermacchi, a Finmeccanica subsidiary, is to supply 30 M-346 advanced trainer aircraft to Israel in a USD 1 billion contract, USD 600 million of which will go to Alenia Aermacchi. The deal includes the construction by state-owned Israel Aerospace Industries' MBT space division of a high-resolution optical military satellite system. The deal also involves maintenance, logistics, simulators, and training, Finmeccanica said in a release here Friday. Finmeccanica's Telespazio will supply Israel with military satellite systems in return for USD 200 million. They are due to be delivered in 2015. Another USD 41 million will go to Selex Elsag, another Finmeccanica company, to supply computer systems, it added. The Israeli side of the bargain is also thought to include Italy's preference to buy multiple electronic intelligence aircraft from Israel Aerospace Industries. Finmeccanica says the two are unconnected.
