Kuwait's Embassies Football Championship got
underway here Saturday under patronage of Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister
Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah.
The six-day championship features participation of 24 teams from diplomatic
missions in Kuwait.
Foreign undersecretary Khaled Al-Jarallah, speaking to reporters after the
opening ceremony, said the ministry was keen on organizing this event every
year to bolster social relations between diplomats in Kuwait.
The participation of the large number of embassies reflected the success of
the previous two championships that were held in Ramadhan in the past two
years, said Al-Jarallah.
The first match was held between the embassies of Nigeria and Indonesia,
ending in favor of the former 3-1.
Then Jordan defeated Vietnam 5-0, while Algeria beat Senegal 2-0 and Iran
smashed the Bangladesh embassy team with nine clean goals. |
