Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation
Saad Eddine Al-Othmani expressed Friday his country's readiness to cooperate
with the UN and Arab League chiefs to contribute to efforts and steps which
would end the Syrian crisis through providing suitable atmosphere for a
peaceful political process.
"Morocco also regrets the recent resignation by UN-Arab League Special
Envoy Kofi Annan to Syria, which everyone was placing high hopes on to end the
bloodshed in Syria," Al-Othmani said in a statement quoted by Morocco Agence
Presse (MAP).
The Moroccan minister added that "Annan's resignation was due to Syrian
regime failure to cooperate and respect commitments, which as result caused
deteriorating situation on the ground in Syria."
Al-Othmani called on the Security Council to accept responsibility and
protect international peace and work to end the cycle of violence in Syria.
The Moroccan minister stressed importance on finding a replacement to Annan
through consultations between United Nations Secretary General and Arab League
counterpart, with the aim of finding peaceful solution to the Syrian crisis.
