Casablanca int'l book fair to kick off Friday

Casablanca is due to host the International Book and Publishing Fair 2010 on February 12-21 with the participation of 720 bodies representing 38 countries. The fair, sponsored by Moroccan King Mohammad VI, would witness the honoring of Moroccan writers who live abroad, youths, and children. Many events would be held on the sidelines of the fair including 110 cultural and intellectual meetings, the presentation of publications of Arab and foreign writers, plays, musical shows, and storytelling events for children. In addition, seminars would be held on several issues like Islam and democracy, the coalition of civilizations, changes in Morocco, changes of literature in the digital era, supporting Moroccan songs, translation, Arab novels, philosophy, and the Moroccan cinema. Former French prime minister Dominique de Villepin would be giving a lecture on culture. The fair would be held on an area of 25,000 square meters, 25 percent more that the previous years.
