Morocco participates in 2nd informal meeting on W. Sahara

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Taieb Fassi-Fihri would head an official delegation to the second informal meeting on Western Sahara in Armonk, New York later on Tuesday, it was announced here. The meeting, to last until 11th of this month, is preparatory for the fifth session of negotiations aimed at politically resolving the regional dispute, a foreign ministry statement said. The meeting, called by UN Special Envoy for Western Sahara Christopher Ross, would also be attended by delegations from Algeria, Mauritania and the Polisario. Located in North Africa, the Western Sahara is largely a Moroccan-controlled territory, bordered by Morocco to the north, Algeria to the northeast, Mauritania to the east and south, and the Atlantic Ocean to the west. the 266,000-square-kilometres flatland is one of the most sparsely populated territories in the world, and it is listed by the United Nations as a non-self-governing territory since the 1960s.
