Egypt on Sunday called on the Israeli occupation to comply with the 1974 Disengagement Agreement and reaffirmed its firm position supporting the end of the occupation of the Syrian Golan Heights.
In a statement, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the position was expressed during a meeting between Egyptian Foreign Minister Bader Abdelatty and his Syrian counterpart Asaad Al-Shaibani, where both sides discussed strengthening bilateral relations and coordinating positions on regional developments.
Abdelatty stressed the depth of historical, cultural, and popular ties between Egypt and Syria, noting that this shared legacy reflects the convergence of the two peoples' will throughout history.
He reiterated that Egypt's stance on the Syrian crisis has been based since its outbreak on clear principles aimed at supporting efforts to restore security and stability, while preserving Syria's unity and national fabric.
The Egyptian minister reaffirmed support for the legitimate aspirations of the Syrian people in all their components, emphasizing full respect for Syria's sovereignty, unity, stability, and territorial integrity.
He also underscored the importance of preserving Syrian state institutions, rejecting foreign interference in its internal affairs, and working toward comprehensive internal stability.
Abdelatty further stressed the need to combat terrorism and extremism in all its forms, address the issue of foreign fighters, and ensure that Syria becomes a source of regional stability.
On regional issues, he strongly condemned Israel's repeated violations of Syrian sovereignty and attempts to exploit the situation to expand control over Syrian territory, warning that such actions undermine stability.
The talks also covered broader regional developments, including US-Iran negotiations and ongoing efforts to reduce tensions, as well as the situation in Lebanon and the importance of preventing escalation in the region.
