US House votes on stopping war with Iran

Date: 03/06/2026     Time: 10:48 PM

The US House passed late Wednesday a bill by a vote of 215-208 calling on President Donald Trump to halt military operations against Iran and withdraw the US troops. The bill is directing the President, pursuant to section 5(c) of the War Powers Resolution, to remove the United States Armed Forces from hostilities against the Islamic Republic of Iran. House Foreign Affairs Committee Democrats said that "The House just PASSED @RepGregoryMeeks' Iran War Powers Resolution". It added "this is a loud and unambiguous message to Donald Trump on behalf of the American people: it's time to end his deeply unpopular and illegal war of choice in Iran". Under the Paragraph 3 of the Article 5 of the War Powers Resolution of 1973, the President is required to withdraw U.S. forces from hostilities within 60 days, unless the Congress declares war or authorizes the use of military force. The resolution is not binding on the President, but it reflects a political position of the House of Representatives regarding ongoing military operations, after four Republicans joined Democrats in supporting the resolution. The resolution is expected to get majority in the Senate due to the votes of some Republicans joining Democrats in support of it.
