1783 -- Kuwaitis engage in their first naval battle with Bani Kaab tribe of southern Arabistan, after Sheikh Abdullah I; the second ruler of Kuwait, refused to pay them taxes. The sea battle took place in Rigga, located between the islands of Failaka and Boubyan. The Kuwaitis who fought aboard small boats won the battle, as the foes' large ships were a cause of their defeat due to shallow waters.
1961 -- Kuwait and the Arab League reach an agreement on deployment of the League's troops along the Kuwaiti-Iraqi border.
1962 -- The Constituent Assembly examines the Constitution draft.
1962 -- Late Amir, Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah, signs the Arab common defense treaty with Arab League Secretary General Abdulkhaliq Hassounah.
1967 -- Late Amir, Sheikh Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah, issues a decree stipulating consent of Kuwait's joining of the Geneva treaties, in particular the Humanitarian Law of Armed Conflicts, a group of international laws for the humane treatment of wounded or captured military personnel, medical personnel and non-military civilians during war.
1986 -- Late Amir, Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, issues a decree stipulating that the Ministry of Oil takes charge of national oil affairs for sake of enhancing the state income resources.
1990 -- Saddam Hussein tables conditions for withdrawal of his occupation forces from Kuwait, namely withdrawal of American forces from Saudi Arabia, Israel from Palestine and Syria from Lebanon, in exchange for what he termed as "arrangements" with Kuwait on basis of his country's "historic rights" in this country.
2005 -- National popular poet, Mansour Al-Khargawi, passes away at 80.
2012 -- Late National Assembly Speaker Jassem Al-Kharafi replies in a letter to Late Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah on the issue of Constitutional Court ruling, which called for the reformation of the 2009 National Assembly. Al-Kharafi said it would be difficult to take such step as decreed by the court on 16/12/2011.
