1976 -- An Amiri decree is signed to issue the Social Insurance Law launching the Public Institution for Social Security (PIFSS). 1981 -- Sheikh Fahad Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah is unanimously elected to the membership of the International Olympic Committee by the nine members of the IOC Executive Office. 1982 -- Kuwait Cancer Control Center or KCCC starts providing medical care to cancer patients. 1994 -- Director General of Kuwait Airways Corporation inaugurate the first production line of KAC's development and maintenance equipment project, dubbed "made in Kuwait." 1999 -- Kuwait wins the first gold medal of Arab radio drama at Tunis Arab Radio Festival; the medal is given to "Nojoum Al-Kemmah" (stars of the top). The bronze medal is given to "Reportage Eza'ei" (radio reportage). 2001 -- The first elections of student and trainee union of the Public Authority for Applied Education and Training (PAAET) are held with 17,596 members taking part. 2003 -- Minister of Energy Sheikh Ahmad Fahad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah inaugurates the first marine sanctuary, named "Jaber Al-Kuwait," with an area of 2,400 sq. m. 2005 -- HSBC Bank Middle East Limited opens a branch in Kuwait; the first branch of a foreign bank in the country. 2005 -- Kuwait Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah issues decree to form the National Committee to Fight Drugs, which started helping the competent state authorities to draw the policies and arrange joint efforts with NGOs. 2013 -- Kuwait Fund signs a loan agreement with Egypt to the tune of KD 30 million (USD 102) to contribute to the railway renovation project.
