1988 -- Kuwait Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah issues decree, establishing Al-Farwaniyah Governorate, bringing total number of the provinces to five. 1997 -- The Kuwaiti telecommunication company Al-Wataniya is established, starting operations in 1999. 1997 -- The Kuwaiti champion Adla Al-Roumi wins the gold medal in the third European Paralympic weight-lifting tournament, held in Slovakia. 1997 -- The first housing exhibition is held at the fair ground in Mishref, drawing more than 40,000 visitors. 2001 -- The novelist and poet Khaled Saud Al-Zaid passes away at the age of 64. 2008 -- Yousef Abdulrazzak is crowned champion of the world jet ski tournament, held in the United States of America. 2010 -- Kuwait grants euro three million to the Paris-headquartered Arab World Institute. 2014 -- First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Sabah declares USD 200 million worth of aid for reconstructing Gaza. 2015 - The new Al-Razi Hospital is inaugurated in Al-Sabah health area, including tens of operations, radiology and physiotherapy rooms. 2020 - Kuwait's Abdullah Al-Fadhel wins Jet Ski World Championship in Arizona, United States.
