US, Egypt discuss Iran ceasefire, humanitarian truce in Sudan

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio met on Tuesday with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty to discuss the Iran ceasefire and efforts to reach a humanitarian truce in Sudan. US State Department Deputy Spokesperson Tommy Pigott said in a press statement that the two sides addressed the importance of establishing long-term peace in the Middle East. Pigott added that both sides stressed the importance of continued US and Egyptian efforts to reach a humanitarian ceasefire in Sudan, noting that the meeting also discussed the disarmament of Hamas in line with a 20-point peace plan for Gaza proposed by US President Donald Trump. He pointed out that both sides also reviewed ways to enhance economic and trade relations between the United States and Egypt.
