Kuwait Radio has established itself over 75 years as a pioneering media institution in the Gulf and Arab region through continuous innovation, earning numerous awards for programs that remain deeply rooted in listeners' memories.
Since its launch on May 12, 1951, Kuwait Radio has served as a leading media and cultural platform in the Gulf region and a national voice accompanying Kuwait's modern development across various historical stages.
Official broadcasting began on the evening of May 12, 1951, from a small room at a Public Security and Police Department, when reporter Mubarak Al-Mayal first declared the phrase " "Huna Al Kuwait" which means This is Kuwait.
In its early years, the station broadcast for only two hours daily through a single transmitter before gradually expanding broadcasting hours and program diversity to become one of the leading Gulf and Arab radio stations.
Director General of Kuwait Radio Dr. Yousef Al-Saree told KUNA on Tuesday that the 75th anniversary represents an important national and media occasion reflecting a long history of distinguished broadcasting achievements.
Al-Saree said that Kuwait Radio has remained the honest voice of Kuwait and a platform for culture, intellect, art and creativity throughout its history.
The station has played a prominent role since its establishment in conveying Kuwait's cultural and media message worldwide while accompanying the country's national and developmental journey across successive stages, he remarked.
Al-Saree added that the anniversary reflects decades of pioneering media work through cultural, artistic, national and social programs, alongside contributions to developing generations of media professionals, artists and intellectuals in the Arab world.
He praised the significant support provided to Kuwait Radio by the political leadership and government over past decades, describing it as the foundation behind the institution's continued success and development.
Al-Saree expressed appreciation to the political leadership for its continued support of national media and Kuwait's Ministry of Information, strengthening Kuwait's cultural, humanitarian and media message.
He stressed that Kuwait Radio would continue developing its media, technical and digital capabilities while preserving the national identity and professional values associated with the station for 75 years.
Al-Saree affirmed that Kuwait Radio would remain a unified national platform preserving Kuwait's history while promoting awareness, culture and national belonging.
He stated that the anniversary celebrates generations of dedicated national personnel who contributed to building the prominent media institution while looking forward to a more advanced future for Kuwaiti radio broadcasting.
Over past decades, Kuwait Radio witnessed rapid development in news, cultural and artistic content, playing a central role in covering local and regional developments and highlighting Kuwait's artistic and literary movement.
The station also contributed to discovering and developing prominent media and artistic figures who left a clear mark on the Gulf and Arab media, while expanding through launching several specialized stations and programs.
The station played a notable national role during the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait in 1990, continuing broadcasts from Cairo through the Sawt Al-Arab network beginning January 1, 1991.
Through those broadcasts, Kuwait Radio maintained communication with the Kuwaiti people and conveyed Kuwait's voice to the world during a defining chapter in the history of Kuwaiti media.
Over 75 years, Kuwait Radio has become a comprehensive media outlet contributing to consolidating national identity and preserving Kuwaiti and Gulf heritage while keeping pace with political, social and cultural transformations.
The station continues enhancing its digital presence and modernizing its platforms and programs while preserving its longstanding legacy and the historic phrase "This is Kuwait," which remains engraved in the memory of Kuwaiti and Arab generations.
