Egypt, Russia discuss Middle East, Horn of Africa developments

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov discussed on Friday developments in the Middle East and the Horn of Africa during a meeting held on the sidelines of the BRICS foreign ministers' gathering in New Delhi. According to a statement by Egypt's Foreign Ministry, the talks addressed regional security developments and ongoing efforts aimed at containing tensions and promoting stability. During the meeting, Abdelatty reviewed Egypt's efforts to reduce escalation in the region, stressing the importance of maintaining the diplomatic and negotiating track between the US and Iran in a way that supports regional peace and security. On Sudan, the Egyptian minister reaffirmed the need to preserve Sudan's unity and territorial integrity, support its national institutions, and reject the establishment of any parallel entities, while emphasizing the importance of launching a comprehensive political process led exclusively by Sudanese parties. Regarding Libya, Abdelatty reiterated Egypt's firm support for Libya's unity and stability, stressing the importance of unifying national institutions and reaching a comprehensive political settlement, paving the way for simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections. On the Horn of Africa, the Egyptian foreign minister affirmed Cairo's support for efforts aimed at achieving stability in Somalia, while stressing that the security of the Red Sea remains the responsibility of the countries bordering it.
