Kuwait marks 2nd anniversary of naming His Highness the Crown Prince

Kuwait marks the second anniversary of naming His Highness Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah to the post of Crown Prince, a milestone reflecting his continued role in advancing Kuwait's progress and boosting its regional and international standing. His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled was named Crown Prince by an Amiri Order issued on June 1, 2024 by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, a decision that received broad public support across Kuwait. In a speech delivered on the occasion before His Highness the Amir, His Highness the Crown Prince pledged loyalty and dedication to serving Kuwait, safeguarding its interests, preserving its security and stability and remaining committed to the country's national values and unity. On June 2, the Cabinet, headed by His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, convened a special session to formally endorse His Highness the Crown Prince to his post, where he took the constitutional oath before them. His Highness the Crown Prince then took the constitutional oath before His Highness the Amir. The anniversary comes as Kuwait continues to face regional and security challenges with diplomatic and field coordination that strengthened the country's stability and readiness. Since the start of the Iranian attacks on February 28, 2026, His Highness the Crown Prince has carried out a series of inspection tours covering military and security facilities to review the country's defense and security capabilities. On March 5, His Highness the Crown Prince visited the Ministry of Defense, where he conveyed greetings from His Highness the Amir, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, and praised the efforts of military personnel in defending the country and protecting its security and stability. On March 7, His Highness the Crown Prince visited the Kuwait National Guard (KNG) headquarters and Kuwait Fire Force (KFF), commending their role in keeping up with developments and strengthening civil protection and emergency response. His tours also included several military bases and strategic sites, in addition to the Joint Operations Center at the Ministry of Defense, the Air Force operations center and the decision-making room at the Interior Ministry. On April 28, representing His Highness the Amir, His Highness the Crown Prince headed Kuwait's delegation to the extraordinary consultative GCC summit in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Over the past year, His Highness the Crown Prince advanced Kuwait's global standing by leading high-level delegations at regional and international summits while closely overseeing local development projects. He also patronized and attended several national events and inaugurations, received Arab and international officials and honored Kuwaiti figures recognized for distinguished achievements. On September 15, 2025, His Highness the Crown Prince headed Kuwait's delegation to the emergency Arab-Islamic summit in Doha, Qatar. He later led Kuwait's delegation to the 80th session of the UN General Assembly and events marking the 80th anniversary of the United Nations in New York on September 19. On September 22, His Highness the Crown Prince participated in the high-level international conference on the peaceful solution to the Palestinian cause and implementation of the two-state solution at UN headquarters in New York. The following day, he delivered a speech on behalf of GCC states during an emergency UN Security Council session on the Middle East, including the Palestinian cause, before addressing the UN General Assembly on September 24. His Highness the Crown Prince also visited the United Kingdom on September 27 and met Crown Prince William, Prince of Wales. On November 2, His Highness the Crown Prince headed Kuwait's delegation in official talks held in Kuwait with Chinese Vice President Han Zheng. On December 15, His Highness the Crown Prince attended the opening ceremony of the "Between Two Masterpieces" exhibition at the Kuwait Islamic Antiquities Museum. Over the past twenty years, His Highness the Crown Prince has significantly shaped Kuwait's diplomacy by navigating regional changes and strengthening ties with Gulf, Arab, and international countries. Born in 1953, His Highness the Crown Prince got a bachelor's degree in political science in 1977 and joined the Kuwait Foreign Ministry in 1978, where he later served as Kuwait's ambassador to Saudi Arabia and the country's representative to the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) between 1995 and 1998. In 1998, he was appointed head of the National Security Bureau with Minister's rank. He later served as minister of Social Affairs and Labor in 2006 and 2007, minister of Information in 2008 and 2009 and minister of Foreign Affairs in 2011. In February 2012, His Highness was appointed Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet affairs before becoming first Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign minister in 2014. He was appointed Prime Minister on November 19, 2019, heading four successive governments through December 2021.
