Libya's future must be built on an inclusive process that reflects the aspirations of all regions and communities and brings stakeholders together in genuine partnership, said US Senior Advisor for Arab and African Affairs Massad Boulos on Wednesday.
Productive discussions with Libyan National Army Deputy Commander Saddam Haftar, said Boulos on his X account. The United States will continue engaging Libyan leaders from across the country, in coordination with SRSG Hanna Tetteh, UNSMIL, and international partners, to support a Libyan-led political process that advances unified governance and creates the conditions for national elections, he explained.
"We reaffirmed the importance of maintaining this momentum. Held an additional important meeting with Deputy Commander Haftar at the National Security Council with Senior Director for the Middle East and Africa Wayne Wall, as we reviewed recent progress toward unifying Libya's military, economic, and political institutions, including the unified budget agreement and Exercise Flintlock 2026.
"Productive and valuable exchange today with Italian National Security Advisor to the Prime Minister Ambassador Fabrizio Saggio. We discussed how to support Libyan efforts to unify their government, economy, and military. This was a useful follow-up to Libyan National Army Deputy Commander Saddam Haftar's recent visit to Washington, in which Ambassador Saggio participated."
He carried on saying that "US-Italian partnership has played a very important role in the ongoing progress toward Libya's reunification, as AFRICOM partnered with the Italian military to host the Flintlock 2026 exercises on Libyan soil, with joint participation of forces from across Libya.
"Today we also discussed continued US-Italy cooperation to strengthen Libyan border security, a range of regional priorities, and our shared commitment to peace and stability".
