1921 -- Sheikh Salem Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah, Kuwait's 9th Ruler, passed away at age of 57. During his four-year reign, custom duties were slashed to four percent which boost trade and resulted in huge revenues. 1961 -- Kuwait Amir Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah signed a law exempting the government from legal fees. 1983 -- Dar Al-Athar Al-Islamiyya (DAI) - which has over 20,000 pieces of rare collection of Islamic art from different ages - was established. 1986 -- Kuwait Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah inaugurated the National Assembly building. The KD 25.8 million sea-side parliament was designed by Jorn Utzon, the Danish architect who designed the Sydney Opera House. 1987 -- Kuwait Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah inaugurated Al-Khairan Resort, southeast Kuwait. The Resort, owned by Kuwait Touristic Enterprises Company, has 196 chalets. 2005 -- Kuwait Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah opened, at Al-Ahmadi Refinery, the first pier in the Middle East that could host giant oil tankers, which could carry 350,000 tons. Constructions of the pier cost KD 100 million. 2010 -- Kuwait Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah opened the largest complex for olefines and styrene production at the Equate Petrochemical Company in the southern Shuaiba Industrial Area. 2011 -- Kuwait Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah opened 360 shopping mall at Zahra Area. 2014 -- Ministry of Electricity and Water signed a KD 23 million contract to install seven power transforming stations at Jaber Al-Ahmad Area, with the aim of providing electricity for houses under construction. 2014 -- Khaled Al-Dubayyan won the first Arab Bowling Cup, held in Qatar, after beating Khalil Aql of Jordan 457-415. 2018 -- George Town University Hospital appointed Kuwaiti surgeon Dr. Waddah Al-Rifae a regional chief for tumor surgery, the first Arab to occupy this position. 2022 -- Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) signed USD 2.5 million donation agreement with UN Development Program (UNDP) to support a renewable energy project for health centers in Yemen.
