Service Description

  • This service allows citizens to obtain licenses to open medical laboratories receiving patients with the aim of collecting vital samples to perform diagnostic medical lab tests, and then sending the results to their doctors. These laboratories do not, necessarily, pertain to a hospital or a medical center. They can be independent laboratories

Eligibility or Criteria

  • The following categories many obtain licenses to open medical laboratories:


  • Kuwaiti doctor free to work full-time in the laboratory and is not medically retired. The applicant doctor must have obtained a specialty diploma and must have at least ten years of experience

  • Laboratory technician free to work full-time in the laboratory and is not medically retired. The applicant technician must have obtained a bachelor's degree in medical laboratories and must have at least ten years of experience


  • A whole separate floor must be allocated for the laboratory, provided that it is prepared by a separate air condition system


  • The area of the laboratory must not be less than (250) square meters


  • All the laboratory employees must have professional licenses to work in the private sector


  • No test must be performed unless requested by a letter from a licensed doctor


  • The total number of doctors and technicians working in the laboratory must not be less than five employees. All the employees must be qualified in the medical laboratory science field 

Required Documents

  • Approval of the Medical License Committee
  • Approvals of Kuwait Municipality, Kuwait Fire Service Directorate and the Environment Public Authority on the location
  • Approval of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry
  • Applicant's civil ID
  • Authenticated scientific certificates
  • Certificate of experience
  • Resignation from the government sector (free for full-time employment)
  • Medical fitness certificate
  • Inspection certificate of Kuwait Municipality and Kuwait Fire Service Directorate

Procedures

Visit the Medical License Department of the Ministry of Health and submit the required documents
Fill the service application form
Obtain the approvals of the official entities concerned (Kuwait Municipality/Kuwait Fire Service Directorate)
Obtain the primary approval of the technical committees of the Ministry of Health
Start the construction procedures of the laboratory according to the previously approved plans. After the laboratory is constructed and equipped, a final inspection is made
Have the terms and requirements of professional licenses to work in the laboratory for doctors and technicians met
Pay the fees due. Then, the laboratory license will be issued

(100) KD Fixed Fees: Changing the laboratory location
