Personal Status Fatwas

Service Description

  • A fatwa is the issuance of a religious ruling to a petitioner based on the Holy Quran and the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), in accordance with the scholarly principles of Islamic jurisprudence. Fatwa requests related to the following matters are accepted: divorce, inheritance, breastfeeding, custody, and others.
    Target Group: Individuals seeking fatwas regarding personal status matters.

Eligibility or Criteria

  • ​Personal attendance is required.
  • The question must be written clearly and legibly.
  • Both the husband and wife must attend in divorce cases.​

Required Documents

  • Civil ID.
  • Fatwa request form.
  • A copy of the will (for matters related to wills).

Procedures

​The Department receives fatwa requests either through personal attendance and writing the question on the designated form, or by submitting it written on the applicant’s own paper, or via fax after completing the applicant’s required information.​

​Completion and approval of the data by the Department Director.​

​The Fatwa Affairs Department reviews the request and schedules an appointment for the applicant to attend in person in cases related to divorce, inheritance, and breastfeeding matters.​

​Providing the applicant with a fatwa receipt on Form No. (1115/4).​

​Only one copy of fatwas related to divorce, inheritance, and breastfeeding matters shall be made and kept in the outgoing records file for the year, while the original fatwa shall be delivered to the requesting party.​

​Several copies of fatwas related to the waiting period (‘Iddah) of a widow or the wife of a missing/captive husband shall be made and filed under the relevant subject files.​
